Miles

I am Miles, the newest clerk at the Department of Public Clocks, where I climb the towers and wind what I am told. In the evenings I study astronomy at the university, where somebody has just bought the name of my cough. My parents have enrolled in an evening class in astronomy to keep up with me, so every Thursday dinner is an exam. On Sundays I fold my shirts at the launderette with friends.
